Fred is salt of the earth. What a great guy.

Dark colors attract heat, a white car and a black car sitting in the sun is a good comparison. The black car will heat up way faster and hotter than the white car. That's why a lot of snakes even have a "dark phase" and "light phase" like boas, they go darker in the mornings and after feeding so they can absorb more heat.

Maybe I misunderstood the conversation but American Alligators are found naturally MUCH farther north than Vero Beach. They are naturally occuring in North and South Carolina and possibly even farther north.

Cichlids should only be kept with cichlids. And no on the turtle because it’ll need land to climb out on and you won’t be able to properly filter the water for the fish.

In June of 2008, an American Crocodile was captured on the barrier island of Isle of Palms, SC. No one was able to determine if had escaped from a collector or if it had managed to make it that far north on its own. Fortunately for the animal, wildlife officials in SC and FL had arranged to have it relocated to a FL preserve.
