I absolutely agree with us not giving the animals we keep enough room. In the wild they have all the room they want. A vision cage is very small. Good for quarantine but IMO that’s it.

Tom gets a bad reputation from a lot of ppl, including from some guy who claimed that he was the one Kenan got his monitors from. I got into it with him a bit and he said all types of bad things about Tom and he claimed he's been to Tom's place and he doesn't keep the animals right, they're all sick, he'd never buy a animal from him. Called him a criminal and all kinds of stuff and at the end he revealed that he was the one Kenan got his monitors from. I asked him which ones? But he never replied! So Kenan there's this guy out there who claims to have provided you with your monitors and is talking trash about Tom. Just letting ya know, cause you seem to be friends with Tom and I'm not a expert in reptile keeping or breeding, but from what I've seen so far when you visited Tom and other reptile enthusiasts, there was never a bad thing I've seen. We all have a past, lot's none of us is proud of and nobody is perfect at anything. I just can't stand ppl who come across as they're the experts of everything and put others down for something someone might've done wrong years and years ago. And then to put Kenan and his monitors in the mix, just made me a bit aggro lol Obviously Tom has been learning, is still learning and he has over 50 yrs of good and bad experiences with keeping and breeding reptiles. You live, you make mistakes and you learn and then you make changes. That's what life is all about !!!! Much love to everyone and can't we all just get along? ❤🤗❤

Beautiful enclosure! But I gotta tell you, This is exactly my house; bare wood and mesh, elevated. Every wall covered. Black coated mesh is what I use. About 40 enclosures overhere. 72 degrees, 65% humidity. Real plants galore. I learn from the best. Stay safe! 🔆

@Irie Rogue ok, that was badly worded. fair play. but hiding in a tight space is an example of thigmotaxis which is frequently observed in retiles and the main example most reptile keepers would be familiar with. in this instance the log fixed to the platform is another valid example. i wasnt particularly trying to go into a scientific paper on it, merely offering the term in context.

So another term for "tactile support", but does not mean "hiding in a tight space"

Mangshan viper, in Chinese 莽山烙铁头, quite a legendary species, only recently found in one specific mountain Mangshan(莽山) in Hunan province, China, which is where they get its name from. There are documentaries on YouTube about how it was found.

@Filardhi Muhyi The Mangshan pit viper is categorized as Critically Endangered in the China Red Data Book of Endangered Animals and the China Species Red List, and as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. It's strictly ilegal to keep and trade, rumor claims in the 1990s (almost immediately after they were found) its black market price in China was around 1mil RMB, which roughly exchanges to 155k USD. All the Mangshan vipers outside China are offspring of which originally been smuggled around those years.

Tom is a hero to the hobby.

People give Tom hell for the way he imported and kept animals in the past. The reality is that this man is crucial in building the foundation for what the reptile industry is today and he deserves credit for that. The hobby has changed over time and I think it's stupid we try to "cancel" people for the way they used to keep animals. It looks like he has great setups for his animals now even to the point of replicating seasonal changes. Appreciate you guys highlighting him and his setup here!

It's good to see he's changed his ways, he was an extremely shady character in the past (not just the importing). Seems he's finally cleaned himself up and taking good care of his animals now.

Just a fun FYI, bears don’t truly hibernate. They will occasionally come out on unseasonably warm days, sometimes to graze a bit, and most oftentimes, when they get flooded out of their dens.

They are so beautiful and one of a kind 😍 ❤ Too bad that they're endangered where they come from, cause the ppl who live there actually kill and eat them. How can you eat such a beautiful snake? But there are also those who worship them in that area and it's sad cause they only live in a limited area and are not found anywhere else. They're also very calm snakes, which makes them even more beautiful. I just love them ❤
