I’ve always loved animals and nature as a whole it fascinates me, animals are so much kinder then humans, give me a room of animals over humans any day and so I really hope 🤞 my boys wants a pet reptile one day they are currently obsessed with dinosaurs (5&3) so lizards and turtles aren’t much of a leap.

Many of you are Darwinism minded " if shoe fits put it on snug." These animals have not " evolved " over millions of years for the earth itself is much less old than that. As the " word " says: " whom is to say that the spirit of the animals goes down and the spirit of the human go up." It also says: " a good man that fears God and loves will care well for his animals." Been doing this over 30 years and only in the last twelve years that I disappeared from this " hobby/business as ole Tom Burke says; " it's a business!" ...indeed As I told Brian and a couple others...I had to pull my head out of my ass or at the very least put in a glass belly button to see out to get the bigger picture. Humility...was not easy and comes with much loss and rejection and yet all that points to good company. People fear info that goes against the grain and if you get " to real" your likely to get demonetized or loose your channels as I've seen for years. You really want to take the best care of yourselves and your animals you will study the food chain and how even different bloodlines of human require different diets even though 99 percent is not taught this like other truths. We are much like parrots repeating what we have heard elsewhere and a feeling of acceptance comes and we get our tribes going and feel confident. I felt confident also in the knowledge I thought I had until that God we forget about as I once did stepped in. Then the keys was given and I lost 200 pounds and lived through cancer and other diseases that killed many I love including in this hobby like Rico. Much has changed in this hobby and I'm not going to say it's all bad...just is what it is. I come back checking out YouTube the last couple years no and you guys have really come out of the cave. I miss the old days and some secrecy that came with it. Polaroid pictures in snail mail and five hour conversations and expensive phone bills oh my! Then in 97 kingsnake.com and many of us thought " this will kill our hobby because more people will get involved that treat animals and people like crap. Yes I know the old stories and how many of us screwed one another over at times....oh hush John! No come on really guys.... I had three I did wrong also years ago and when that forgotten God stepped in my life he told me make amends and I was able two out of three. We have all had our ups and downs and nobody is completely clean in this hobby that's been around a long time but what is important is do we learn from mistakes? Now two years ago something says check out YouTube and wow there you all are... From our own " secret society " lol to YouTube movie stars and members only Facebook pages! It's all good. Most of us was considered nuts for wanting a house full of reptiles and now you guys and gals have brought it to the world. So watch the example. Be a good one...make a difference. In this hobby we have all kinds. Christian, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, atheist, Darwinism and even satanic lost. However in the end a snake could separate all difference and allow for good conversation and learning. Birds of a feather. Balls everywhere and yet so glad to see those like Keenan showing how beautiful other reptilians are and how thick this wonderful brotherhood is. The beard rocks brother. Lol.... reptilians! I'll hush. God is good. Find him on your face not in a building. On my face! Ya he made you and y'all's buddy Darwin and all those creatures we like to be around and kiss. 🌱🌹🐞❤️

It's so hard not to pull your hand away when someone is biting you. I had ferrets and had to learn not to pull away when they bite because then the wound is so much worse. Just be patient with yourself like you are with animals when you're training yourself. 😊

Where can I get an Eastern Box Turtle that was hatched in captivity? I have saved a few off the road, but I didn’t want to take them from the wild. There used to be tons around here, but now they are rare.

I guess I never realized that Pinky was full grown! There is such a huge size difference between her and Slinky! And I grew up watching Godzilla and I've always loved dragon movies too. And don't forget about Gamera! Since I've started watching your videos and realized that there were so many different species of turtle and tortoise it then made me ask the crazy question of "what kind of turtle is Gamera anyway??" 😀

One of the things I admire the most about you is your attitude, you're always learning and are actually willing to learn from your mistakes, you don't pretend to know everything and when you do make a mistake you own up to it, explain what you did wrong and then work to fix it so it doesn't happen again. I was recently in Florida for the first time and I got to go to gatorland. I got to pet their 100 year old Aldabra tortoise and was just so star struck to be able to interact with such a special creature that had been on this earth for so long. I live in Oregon so I don’t get to experience tortoises like that often, it was so amazing! I hope more people can love tortoises and reptiles like we do!

We both have the exact same start in reptiles! I grew up in Levittown NY and saw turtles at the local pet shop when I was 9 and was in awe, my mom got me a red eared slider and I was hooked. Eventually I got into breeding ball pythons, leopards geckos, and Bearded dragons, and kept all sorts of others. Nowadays I’ve moved to a Orlando FL and I’ve got a baby Sumatran water monitor I’m raising among a bunch of other cool animals. I would love to visit Kamp Kenan one day and learn more! I’ve got family in Loxahatchee so I go down there from time to time if you’re open to a visitor on occasion.

Turtles and tortoises were my first introductions to reptiles too. I remember being four years old and the family dog brought a baby turtle home from a nearby pond. She didn't hurt it, just carried it home. I begged my mom to let me keep it. She said no and stood firm on that and we took the little guy back to the pond. We also used to see tortoises crossing the road on a fairly regular basis and it was always so exciting to me. I've always had mammals as pets (and still do) but a turtle remained my dream pet well into my twenties, when I finally got my sweet and funny boy Hector. Twelve years later, I now have a blue tongue skink (one of my best friends ever) as well, and am considering adding another lizard or maybe a snake to my family. I think chelonians will always have that special place in my heart though.

Oh Kenan... Pinky must be putting out those lizard pheromones. Females get nippy when they're ready and she's pre-shed ready. It's even after a cold snap, so they are probably identifying smells. You went right to Slinky afterwards and who does he smell but that hot young lizard lady. Her nipping at your hand and then his nudging your belly like he wants to turn you around. Lol. Wow.

Learning about reptiles kind of leads into plants as well when you start to learn about their environments and all the different kinds of plants that they like to live in and also eat which is really cool

I also started with a red eared slider when I was a kid and my dad had a few snakes that I would help out with. I was real big into dinosaurs I was in kindergarten and swore up and down that I wanted to be a paleontologist. Lol

I think you should explain the turtles shells. There is a lot of information people don't know about the shells. Like they can feel when you touch their shells ex. I'm with you on your feelings about people. I really dislike people. To much drama, to much lying and there are far to many of them that can't be trusted. Let's not forget the nosiness , the know it alls , the bullies and the I'm better than you people. People just suck. I will hang out with animals all day long and be quite happy people not so much. I see people and run the other way. Animals are a lot of fun. They all have there own personalities and they don't judge you.

This video was awesome, took my mind off of my towed car. Everything you have said is the same as me. The dinosaurs, Godzilla and being different as a kid. I used to catch bugs, lived in Barbados and Nassau Bahamas and all we had were reptiles and bugs everywhere. Girls didn't like me much. Today I have a veiled chameleon, a ball python and a over 3 foot tegu that sleeps in my bed. Its a scaled down amount of what I had in my mid 20s. You vids are awesome. Thank goodness I found friends that wanted to tag along on my nutty animal-finding trips when I was younger...we were different, and none of us cared! That aspect has served well over time. As for why I like reptiles...nowadays too many reasons to count. What started it, probably the fact that a lot of the world just didn't like them as much as the "cute and fluffy" things so maybe I related (nobody likes the weird kid who knows the word herpetology at 4 years old and would rather read a book on snakes than play video games...); none of us fit in the normal box.

I've always been drawn to them, because of their otherness and beauty and ancient background. Until recently, I didn't keep any because I hated the way they were kept as pets; in small, plasticised, sterile environments. It always seemed very wrong to me and although I would drool over them in horrible pet shops, I knew I couldn't keep them how I believed they should be kept. Then the whole bioactive revolution happened and I was in! I have a few lizards, in huge, naturalistic vivariums and I love everything about keeping them. A lot of the husbandry still prevalent in the hobby bothers me very much and I believe overbreeding by amateur keepers is a problem that is only going to get worse and the number of unwanted animals will only increase. The practice of breeding any animal for profit is inherently wrong in my opinion, so I do struggle with that side of the hobby. Adopt, don't shop, be it a reptile or any other companion animal. Noam Chomsky described human intelligence as a lethal mutation. I agree with him!

BTW when I found your channel, I had to notice that you had been a pro in a fast sport, who was simultaneously a fan of turtles - meaning pretty slow and mostly relaxed creatures. So, the thought came up thought, "Maybe these animals provide some counterbalance in his life."

I love all animals and have developed a small collection myself over the recent years. Turtles, fish, blue tongue skink, and soon a frog and 3 baby redfoots. My mother in law calls my skink a snake and is freaked out by her. My goal is to educate people like her and hopefully show them they're not so scary. All the kids in the neighborhood love to come see my reptile room 👍 I started watching your channel years ago after I got my first 2 turtles

They just seem so smart when you look in their eyes. Skinks have special place in my heart but I'm a bird person so totally understand the idea of living with dinosaurs.

When i was a child my grandmother took in a iguana (if i remember right it was about 5-6 feet from nose to tip of tail). My mom would put it in a cat harness an id walk it outside. It pretty much had run of my grandmothers house it would come down from the high shevles my mom put in an sit on the back of the couch an watch Saturday cartoons with me. (My grandmother would take in any kind of animal exp snakes) I got my love of animals from her. However for me my love of reptiles came from fred the iguana.

Was not a reptile person at all. Thought they were not very smart. Not a great pet. Watching your videos however, has taught me otherwise. I love it. Thank you!

I hope my baby peach throat tames down like slinky. She is quite flight and nippy but i love her. Sadly she she not that food driven so i haven't been able to use food for taming. She eats great but dose it at her own time

I grew up in the woods of Northern California catching lizards, snakes, and amphibians. I used to keep some of them as pets but never very well, I'm talking like 7-8 years old. I was/am a huge dinosaur nerd. I made my mom read Jurassic Park with me before the movie came out. Finally got my first pet lizard, a chameleon, which was a bad choice. Luckily after it died I wasn't put off. I got a leopard gecko after that. Then went through having 5 water dragons co habituating in a huge custom cage in my bedroom. I picked up a yellow anaconda in middle school. Had a few ball pythons. After high school I kinda dropped out of reptiles but still had my anaconda. Now I found a fiance who loves reptiles as much as I do. We have 30 pets of all kinds.

I'm a dog and cat person, no doubt, but ever since I started watching your channel and others like yours I've grown fond of reptiles too, espescially monitors and tegus. There is no way I could keep one, for lack of space and also the fact that it is below freezing point out here 6 months a year. But still, I enjoy learning about reptiles. Slinky is a very special animal.

the reason i like reptiles is like you touched on how no matter the age like my sapper is is a juvenile she looks like a thing from the past and also i love how smart they are i used to have a crested gecko who was crazy and then everyday i stuck my hand near him at first he would run away then after 30 days of doing it he now crawls on my hand the he jumps back in his cage when he is done with handling

My son was gifted a red-eared slider and I fell in love with it. Started watching you for the tortoises 🐢 and my fear of lizards 🦎 turned into an appreciation and now love of lizards, monitors, etc. Still scared to death of snakes, but love everything you teach us about all reptiles! Thanks, Kenan!! It's even strengthened my relationship with my son as we now have a new interest to talk about in reptiles.
